Pupils at Rugby High School are breathing new life into a much-loved play for their annual school production.
Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew introduces one of theatre’s great screwball double-acts, a couple hell-bent on confusing and outwitting each other right up to the play’s equivocal and controversial conclusion.
The play tackles hard hitting issues such as the role of women and misogynistic attitudes towards them both inside and outside of marriage – albeit with dashes of laughter and comedy thrown into the mix.
The directors and cast have used the vivid language to create a strong visual interpretation of the play, and the large ensemble brings the many eccentric characters to life. than 60 students are involved in the production and have had creative input into the performance.
The Taming of the Shrew’ opened yesterday and continues tonight (Thursday) and tomorrow at 7.30pm.
Tickets cost £5 (£3 for concessions) and are available at from the foyer from 1pm every day this week.
